After the settlement, the leadership of both companies changed. The Dobsons’ son, Tom, became Whataburger’s chief executive in 1993. Joe Andrews Sr. died in 1999, and his son, Joe Jr., took over—and then died suddenly three years later while attending a Whataburger conference in New Orleans.
